The Royal Lifesaving Society are the governing body of the national vocational beach lifeguard award. On this course you gain the skills needed to work as an RNLI lifeguard or become a surf instructor or coasteering guide.

In addition to lifeguard courses, we have partnered up with Surfing Croyde Bay to offer the Surfing England Surf Instructor Course.
The process concludes with an in-depth evaluation, designed to guarantee that participants acquire the essential skills and knowledge required to become a qualified surf instructor.
Our courses are designed so you can complete the Lifeguard and Surf Instructor course in 1 full week. The NVBLQ Lifeguard is a pre requisite to starting the Surf Instructor course.

Speak fluent English
Be at least 16 years of age
Swim 400m in a 25m pool in under 8 minutes
Run 200m in Under 40 seconds on a beach
Have previous experience of the beach and ocean environment (eg. you are a intermediate surfer, or have done open water swimming, are involved in sailing etc)
We can organise accommodation for you with our partners but this is not included in the course price
All the equipment is provided but if you would like to bring your own then feel free!
The course lasts 6 days (9am – 5pm)
This is split in to 5 days learning and 1 day assessment
Your NVBLQ award is valid for 2 years initially then you will be expected to do a proficiency every year (every 2 years with RLSS)
During this exciting course you will gain the knowledge and skills required to provide professional beach patrolling and surf rescue services. Alongside this you will learn basic life support, practical first aid protocols and gain theoretical understanding of these topics. The Surf Lifeguard course is physically demanding and will include swimming, paddling rescue boards, running and lifting. We will teach you a variety of units throughout 40 hours of guided learning using the latest and best training resources available. All units must be successfully passed to attain the qualification.
